POWLOH DROPS EP "COLD SUMMER PARADISE"

"You’ve got me feeling alright, And we’ve been up all night

I’m with you in our own time."

- Powloh in In Our Own Time

In this fast-paced world filled with the pressure of changing and growing, it’s challenging to keep genuine bonds, connections, and even relationships. And that’s where Powloh’s new hit, “In Our Own Time,” under his Cold Summer Paradise EP, along with other releases like Coupla Miles High and Paris Green, takes us. With this song, our Philippines-born, Naarm/Melbourne-based artist, Paulo Guina, also known as “Powloh,” brings you that feeling of how you could barely feel the fleeting time when you’re with someone you love.

Bringing you those rhythmic beats and a sense of nostalgia akin to the vintage 80s and 70s through a unique blend of French electronic, funk, and hip hop with some disco, this DIY artist tells you his colorful story.

In his Instagram video, we see a teaser of his Cold Summer Paradise EP, with “In Our Own Time” playing in the background with Powloh’s art, clips of his friends, his dog, him doing his hobbies, time spent with his girlfriend, Meaghan Payne, some clips of what’s happening in his life, and the BTS production of Cold Summer Paradise.

The song starts with the line, “Did you feel when time was only resting holding your attention counting all the seconds.” This meant that if the listener ever remembered that time when they were completely absorbed in something, and how that moment seemed to have stood still for them.

Then the song progresses with how “outside, nothing feels the same, moments slip away, fading but we stay,” which means that they’ve now sensed the present and how those precious moments may have slipped away, yet despite it all, they stayed.

Overall, the song is like a dialogue that offers reassurance to the one you love that despite the relentless march of time and the pressure it brings, your relationship remains unfazed, frozen in time.

Despite the EP being released just a couple of weeks ago, In Our Own Time has already garnered over 102,000 plays on Spotify. So this song is definitely something you shouldn’t miss.

And it’s not just this song that’s unique; the artist himself is someone every Filipino should be proud of. He shows the world that amazing music can also be made and produced alone, and we definitely stan an independent artist making his mark in the world.

Though Powloh initially and humbly started as an artist and painter who was often in the background as a touring DJ and a session musician, he has earned his spotlight as a jack-of-all-trades and a master to some as he has composed, performed, and produced his EPs himself.

Amassing over 71,000 active monthly listeners worldwide, Powloh makes his mark with his unique music that defies every other genre you’re so used to listening to.

Powloh also thanked The Annex , GYROstream , Great Company Collective & his girlfriend Meaghan Payne for helping him become the person he is today.

Powloh’s lyrics to In Our Own Time is a comfortable hug to anyone experiencing anxiety in their relationships and the pressure of change in the present. It gives you a sense of reassurance and acceptance that amid uncertainties, the bonds you share together with your loved one or even your friends, stands frozen in your own time.

Powloh’s “In Our Own Time” was featured on Episode 66 of The Chosen Dozen for a fourth week in a row, listen and stream below!
