Filipino-Canadian singer-songwriter August Rigo returns with his latest track “It’s Not Fair” in collaboration with Tim Chantarangsu, which was released on the 14th of February, Valentine’s day. The RNB-dance-pop single has a refreshing uplifting tone to contrast its rather conflicting story that it tells through the lyrics of the track.

The track dwells on the topic many of us are all too familiar with, finding someone whose love is special and yet still losing them through the seams of life. The line from the chorus stating “It’s not fair, I can’t find another like you”, is able to explain the frustration the artist feels trying to find the love they experienced with someone through other people.

"‘It's Not Fair’ creates a happy vibe in this space and world that's filled with melancholy,” says August Rigo about the single penned with his friend Tim Chatarangsu. "Tim and I met through our mutual friend, Benji, and ended up in Australia at the same time working on separate projects. We connected on a personal level and developed a sincere friendship."

The production behind the track is a nod to 2000’s RNB tracks such as those from artists like Justin Timberlake and Chris Brown. With August Rigo, growing up in the 90’s he is greatly influenced by hallmarks of R&B such as Jodeci and also being influenced by icons such as Chicago and Michael Jackson during his childhood years.

The Filipino-Canadian has been working behind the scenes writing for names such as BTSJustin BieberChris BrownKehlani, and One Direction, co-writing songs such as “U Smile” and “Kiss and Tell”, and writing hits like “Back to Sleep” and “Black Swan”. His collaborator Tim Chantarangsu on the other hand is known for his part on the sketch comedy and improv game show, Wild ‘N Out hosted by Nick Cannon, who in this song lends his vocals on the rap verse of the track.

August Rigo spent the past years working behind the scenes as a songwriter for other big names and now recently taken to the spotlight under his own name is surely one Filipino artist to keep our eyes on. “It’s Not Fair” is just one of the latest additions to the artist’s catalog, so make sure to stay updated to see future releases and collaborations from this Filipino artist making waves globally.
