Twellly

Hip-Hop and R&B have been genres historically dominated by male artists. Through the years, female voices like Beyonce, Rihanna, and Lauryn Hill paved the way for R&B to be seen as a genre for all. Worth noting is Filipina R&B artist H.E.R. who recently bagged another Grammy award, opening more doors and opportunities for a growing number of Filipina R&B artists.

After a collaboration with established Canadian-based R&B artist John Concepcion for their single "Maybe", the up-and-coming Filipina R&B artist Twellly is back with her third official release titled "CANVAS". Hailing from the DMV area, all the way from the United States, this Filipina singer brings her Pop/Trap with a bit of R&B-influenced sound on this new record released March 26th.

"CANVAS" covers a subject that has piqued my interest. As an artist myself, I've written about this in one of the songs I released. It's about the tricky situation of getting into a relationship with someone who has baggage from a previous relationship, leaving the next person the responsibility of dealing with it. It's a subject matter many of us struggle with, especially in the fast-paced world we now live in.

The dark atmospheric production by SIGHOST and Jaywoodbeatz complement perfectly with the emotions brought by this track. It speaks on tragedy with the glimmer of optimism with lyrics like "Lay out all your baggage on my canvas", an expression from the artist that she wishes to work it out and see the relationship through.

Twellly is an artist fresh to the music scene, but the 3 tracks she has since put out, display all her meticulous efforts behind the scenes before finally releasing something into the world. She mentions in her interview with Beat This PH, that she already has an EP set for release in the fall and will have a new single every month leading up to the release of this project.
